Hello Timberjacks, are you ready for the Pinewood Derby!?!!  Here is the important information you need to know:

Remember to follow the rules!  I'll highlight a few here:
  • The car must have been built this year; cars that have competed in a prior year's race are not eligible.
  • Car width shall not exceed 2 3/4", must have at least a 3/8" clearance on the bottom, the height shall not exceed 3 1/4", the length shall not exceed 7", and the weight cannot exceed 5 ounces.
The full rule sheet can be viewed here.

Thursday January 21st from 7:00-8:00pm in the JC Grose RoomThere will be a Derby Car Workshop on for any scout that needs access to power tools or a saw to cut out and shape their block of wood into a car.  The Bears need volunteers to help run the equipment.  They would also appreciate any volunteers that would like to come and offer insight to those scouts that have never participated or bring your derby kits with tools.

Thursday, January 28th: Please register for the race online. Due to the complexity of the scoring system, we need all scouts to preregister their cars.  This is so we can enter all the needed information into the computer to assist with the scoring and tracking of the race results.  Thursday, Jan 28th is the deadline for entering your scout's car online.  Registrations may still be done at the door, but please register online to help make things run smoother.

Friday, January 29th from 4pm - until: Race track setup is in the fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church. We'll be polishing and setting up our track and we'll have an Outlaw race. We'll be checking cars into Parc fermé for race day beginning at 6:00pm. The Outlaw race will begin at 7:00pm. Come and help with the track and also have an opportunity to race your outlaw cars (almost anything goes)! The Outlaw race is open to all family members. There will be a prize for the quickest Outlaw car! Please note: While most other rules are tossed out the window for the Outlaw race, the size restrictions still apply so that the cars can correctly fit on, and not damage, the track.

Saturday, January 30th from 8:30-12:00: Race day! Race day car check-in's will be from 8:30am to 9:00am with racing starting at 9:30am. With our new track and computer system the racing is pretty fast and furious so plan to be there for the duration so that you don't miss out on any of the action. We should be finished around midday. Our Webelos 1 dens will have concessions for sale so come hungry. All sorts of goodies will be sold, as a fundraiser for their special trip to the USS Yorktown next Fall. Help with clean-up after the race would be greatly appreciated!
