2017 Resident Camp

posted Mar 27, 2017, 10:43 AM by Pack 940 Cub Scouts

When: Wednesday, June 14 - Saturday, June 17
Where: Camp Raven Knob (CRK)
Your Cost: $75 per Scout and $40 per Adult (these are reduced costs, the Pack is covering $60/Scout and $35/adult)
Deadline to Register: Monday, April 24 at 1:00am EDT

Pack 940 has historically required that an adult from each family attend with his/her Scout(s). While we STRONGLY encourage a parent to attend with their Scout(s), we're relaxing the requirement in an effort to increase participation at Resident Camp. A Scout may attend Resident Camp without a parent/guardian under the following conditions:
  1. An adult with a Scout in the same rank agrees to accept full responsibility for the Scout attending without a parent/guardian. Note that two-deep leadership requirements still apply. This means that a Scout who attends camp without a parent/guardian cannot share a tent with another adult (unless it's a very big tent with 2+ adults).
  2. No adult can accept responsibility for more than one additional Scout.
  3. Pack 940 leadership reserves the right to require parents/guardians to attend if the Scouts-to-adult ratio becomes unmanageable.
Visit CRK Cub Camp for more information. We will be sharing more details and helping you prepare over the coming weeks.

To sign up for camp, email Dean Vogt ( the below information and then head to the Pack Store to make your payment.

  • Detail any serious allergies or dietary restrictions
  • Emergency contact information

2017 Blue and Gold banquet

posted Feb 7, 2017, 5:10 AM by Pack 940 Cub Scouts   [ updated Feb 7, 2017, 5:59 PM ]

Parents and Scouts, it's that time of year again - time to celebrate Pack 940 at our annual Blue & Gold banquet!

The banquet is on Saturday, February 18 from 5:30-8:00pm at First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst St, Kernersville (map). We are having a Western theme!

Pack 940 will supply beverages (tea, lemonade, water) and the main dishes (BBQ and fried chicken). We need parents to supply the side dishes so that no one has to leave hungry. It is imperative that you complete the form below so that we have an accurate headcount and know how much food to purchase. You can also opt in to participate in the cake decorating contest - suggested ideas include Western- or Cub Scout-themed.

Please remember to bring enough of your chosen side dish to feed the number of people in your party. This will help ensure there is enough food for everyone too!

2017 Pinewood Derby!

posted Jan 17, 2017, 5:36 PM by Pack 940 Cub Scouts

2017 Pinewood Derby Information

Hello Timberjacks, are you ready for the Pinewood Derby????  Here is some important information you need to know:

Remember to follow the rules!  The full rule sheet can be viewed here.

I'll highlight a few others:

The car must have been built this year; cars that have competed in a prior year's race are not eligible.
Car width shall not exceed 2 3/4", must have at least a 3/8" clearance on the bottom, the height shall not exceed 3 1/4", the length shall not exceed 7", and the weight cannot exceed 5 ounces.

Wednesday, January 18th : Online Registration opens for all racers

Please register for the race online here.  Due to the complexity of the scoring system, we need all scouts to preregister their cars so that race control can have the software ready.  This is so we can enter all the needed information into the computer to assist with the scoring and tracking of the race results (yes, one entry change throws off the entire event).

Thursday, January 26th: Thursday, Jan 26th is the deadline for entering your scout's car online.  Please note that you register to participate, and then bring your car to go through Pre-Race Tech after 6pm on Friday night, January 27th , or NO LATER than 9am on Saturday, January 28th . Please remember we ENCOURAGE you to have your car impounded on Friday night to avoid embarrassing issues which may cause your scout’s car from being able to race.

NO registrations to participate may be done at the door, only presenting your car for technical inspection prior to being impounded. Therefore, please register online promptly to help make things run smoother. We will NOT hold up the activities for the PACK for the last minute procrastinator. That is not fair to all the scouts that were obedient in their task to register early and have their car through tech on time.

Friday, January 27th from 4pm - until: Race track setup is in the fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church. We'll be polishing and setting up our track and we'll have an Outlaw race (time permitting and if the track and timing are operating properly). We will also be checking cars into Parc fermé (impound) for race day beginning at 6:00pm. The Outlaw race will begin at 7:00pm (tentatively based on race conditions). Come and help with the track and also have an opportunity to race your outlaw cars (almost anything goes)! The Outlaw race is open to all family members. There will be a prize for the quickest Outlaw car! Please note: While most other rules are tossed out the window for the Outlaw race, the size restrictions still apply so that the cars can correctly fit on, and not damage, the track.

Saturday, January 28th from 8:30am-12:00(Est): Race day! Race day car check-ins for tech inspection and impound (this is NOT registration) will be from 8:30am to 9:00am with racing starting at 9:30am. With our new track and computer system the racing is pretty fast and furious so plan to be there for the duration so that you don't miss out on any of the action. We should be finished around midday. Our Webelos 1 Scouts will have concessions for sale so come hungry. All sorts of goodies will be sold, as a fundraiser for their special trip to the USS Yorktown. Any help with clean-up after the race would be greatly appreciated! ALSO, we are planning a special treat, weather permitting, which should prove to be a fun and unique addition to the day. Bring your camera to record the day’s activities!
