Reminder: All adults in attendance must have a valid Youth Protection Training certificate - this includes parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, siblings over the age of 18, etc.
This is an annual opportunity for our families to enjoy the outdoors together. Unlike Parent/Son Camp (fall) and Resident Camp (summer), Family Camp is a relatively unstructured weekend. Some dens may use this opportunity to work on advancements; others may have no scheduled activities at all. If you’re interested in coordinating a scheduled activity (map & compass, games, etc.), please let Dean Vogt know (contact info below). More details, including what to bring, will be provided via email.

Parents and Scouts, it's that time of year again - time to celebrate Pack 940 at our annual Blue & Gold banquet!
The banquet is on Saturday, February 18 from 5:30-8:00pm at First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst St, Kernersville (map). We are having a Western theme!
Pack 940 will supply beverages (tea, lemonade, water) and the main dishes (BBQ and fried chicken). We need parents to supply the side dishes so that no one has to leave hungry. It is imperative that you complete the form below so that we have an accurate headcount and know how much food to purchase. You can also opt in to participate in the cake decorating contest - suggested ideas include Western- or Cub Scout-themed.
Please remember to bring enough of your chosen side dish to feed the number of people in your party. This will help ensure there is enough food for everyone too!

The theme for this wild night is "Wildlife Conservation" focusing on insects and using creative STEM activities and museum resources that can be applied toward your wildlife conservation pin and belt loop requirement.
When: March 10th-11th (arrival starts at 5:45pm on Friday, everyone is gone by 9am Saturday morning)
Where: SciWorks, 400 W Hanes Mill Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC
Why: Because it will be a blast!
Register on-line in the form below and pay by going to the Pack 940 store here or by check payable to "Pack 940". Registration cut-off is February 3rd and cannot be extended since the numbers must be turned into SciWorks. Payment is due by February 28.
The cost is $40 per scout and $15 per adult. Registered leaders are free (thank you for leading and volunteering)!
SciWorks will provide a snack Friday evening and a light breakfast on Saturday morning.
Important Reminders: Each scout in attendance must have a completed medial form (attached to this post). Every adult in attendance must have current Youth Protection Training (YPT). There is a link to Youth Protection Training in the Links section on our website.
Gentle reminder: If you're a light sleeper you may want to bring earplugs - the snoring can get pretty loud!
2017 Pinewood Derby Information
Hello Timberjacks, are you ready for the Pinewood Derby???? Here is some important information you need to know:

I'll highlight a few others:
The car must have been built this year; cars that have competed in a prior year's race are not eligible.
Car width shall not exceed 2 3/4", must have at least a 3/8" clearance on the bottom, the height shall not exceed 3 1/4", the length shall not exceed 7", and the weight cannot exceed 5 ounces.
Wednesday, January 18th : Online Registration opens for all racers
Please register for the race online here. Due to the complexity of the scoring system, we need all scouts to preregister their cars so that race control can have the software ready. This is so we can enter all the needed information into the computer to assist with the scoring and tracking of the race results (yes, one entry change throws off the entire event).
Thursday, January 26th: Thursday, Jan 26th is the deadline for entering your scout's car online. Please note that you register to participate, and then bring your car to go through Pre-Race Tech after 6pm on Friday night, January 27th , or NO LATER than 9am on Saturday, January 28th . Please remember we ENCOURAGE you to have your car impounded on Friday night to avoid embarrassing issues which may cause your scout’s car from being able to race.
NO registrations to participate may be done at the door, only presenting your car for technical inspection prior to being impounded. Therefore, please register online promptly to help make things run smoother. We will NOT hold up the activities for the PACK for the last minute procrastinator. That is not fair to all the scouts that were obedient in their task to register early and have their car through tech on time.
Friday, January 27th from 4pm - until: Race track setup is in the fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church. We'll be polishing and setting up our track and we'll have an Outlaw race (time permitting and if the track and timing are operating properly). We will also be checking cars into Parc fermé (impound) for race day beginning at 6:00pm. The Outlaw race will begin at 7:00pm (tentatively based on race conditions). Come and help with the track and also have an opportunity to race your outlaw cars (almost anything goes)! The Outlaw race is open to all family members. There will be a prize for the quickest Outlaw car! Please note: While most other rules are tossed out the window for the Outlaw race, the size restrictions still apply so that the cars can correctly fit on, and not damage, the track.
Saturday, January 28th from 8:30am-12:00(Est): Race day! Race day car check-ins for tech inspection and impound (this is NOT registration) will be from 8:30am to 9:00am with racing starting at 9:30am. With our new track and computer system the racing is pretty fast and furious so plan to be there for the duration so that you don't miss out on any of the action. We should be finished around midday. Our Webelos 1 Scouts will have concessions for sale so come hungry. All sorts of goodies will be sold, as a fundraiser for their special trip to the USS Yorktown. Any help with clean-up after the race would be greatly appreciated! ALSO, we are planning a special treat, weather permitting, which should prove to be a fun and unique addition to the day. Bring your camera to record the day’s activities!
It's almost time for Camp Raven Knob's "Scout vs. Wild" Parent/Son weekend!
Are you a Cub Scout? Can you survive in the wild? Camp Raven knob is calling for the smartest, toughest, and cheeriest scouts to go into survival mode. Come join us for a fun filled weekend where your skills will be put to the test. Camping, fishing, hiking the Knob, BB's, archery, and so much more are waiting for you around every corner! We want to see your best survival skills and come to learn some new ones. Be prepared scouts . . . the WILD awaits! Are you up for the challenge?
Note: This event is for registered Cub Scouts, Parents, and Leaders only. This is NOT Family Camping. Please do not bring siblings.
Pack 940 will be providing breakfast and supper on Saturday the 22nd - You are responsible for Friday night's meal, lunch on Saturday, and Sunday breakfast.
The meals will be pancakes and bacon for breakfast with hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, and chips for supper.
This will be a great weekend for you to learn how to master the Dutch Oven and cook a cobbler on the fire!
Cost for this event is $15 per person, which includes a patch, t-shirt, and 2 meals cooked by the Pack.

Pack 940 has been asked again this year to participate in presenting our nations flag and leading in the Pledge of Allegiance at the Honeybee Festival. We will be doing this along side of the Kernersville Police Department and Fire Departments's Honor Guards.
The date is Saturday, August 20th and we will need to be there by 9:40am to get things started at 10am.
Please let us know if you can join us for this honor by filling in the form below. Parking passes will be given so after the ceremony you will be able to stay for the rest of the day if you wish.

When: Friday Evening 4/29, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning
The pack will be cooking Saturday breakfast and Saturday supper. Families are responsible for their Friday supper and Sunday breakfast. The cost to cover the pack provided meals is $5 per person, with a max of $20 per family.

It's spring and that means it's time to recharter for the next scouting year.
The Scouting year runs from April 1 to March 31 each year. To remain active in the pack after April 1, it's time to pay the annual fee. You do not want to miss out on all the fun, learning, and campouts that will happen this year!
The annual fee is $24 per scout, or $36 if you want to your scout to receive the Boys' Life magazine.
